A Brief Overview

Performs selected medical assistant and clerical duties that assist in care for clinic patients following established standards, practices, and competency. Works collaboratively with other clinic staff to solve practice‑related problems. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.

What

you will do
  • Assist in care to patients as directed by provider based on competency.
  • Provide accurate, completed, legible and timely documentation of all patient procedures in the medical record.
  • Maintain timely flow of patients.
  • Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests; responsible for assisting with patient and family education to include procedures, medication use, nutrition, disease processes, and maintenance of health and wellness, based on competency.
  • Greets patients and conducts clinical interview collecting history and vital signs.
  • Label and process lab specimens according to lab procedures.
  • Maintain exam room for necessary supplies and materials. Perform daily and weekly environmental cleaning and equipment quality control and maintenance. Clean and sterilize medical equipment according to policy. Follow correct procedures for handling and disposing of bio‑hazardous infectious waste.
  • Provide back‑up help for front desk personnel; this may include answering telephone, scheduling and canceling appointments, and scheduling consult patients.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Required

Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Health career Association (NHA) upon hire or
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) upon hire or
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) upon hire or
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) upon hire or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) upon hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • Associate's Graduate of Medical Assistant program or diploma
