Key Responsibilities
Subject Matter Expertise
Demonstrate mastery of the Florida Maths Standards for Grades 5.
A student-facing phenomenon and mini-lesson that builds conceptual understanding
Explicit instruction on key vocabulary and scientific ideas
A hands-on modeling lab that makes abstract concepts visible and concrete
Reflection and written response opportunities aligned to constructed-response expectations
Practice questions and an exit ticket that reinforce understanding and mirror assessment expectations
Instructional Design and Development
Lesson Architecture: Create structured lessons optimized for a 30-minute timeframe:
Content (15-20 mins): Design interactive and visually aided instructional material that facilitates active learning and adheres to micro-learning principles.
Practice questions (10 mins): Develop formative and summative assessments (quizzes, interactive checks, etc.) that accurately measure student mastery of the learning objectives.
Canvas Integration: Build and finalize all lesson components directly in Canvas, utilizing native tools like Modules, Pages, and Quizzes to ensure a seamless student experience.
Multimedia Integration: Select or suggest appropriate diagrams, videos, and interactive simulations that enhance conceptual understanding of complex scientific phenomena.
Collaboration and Feedback
Collaborate with the Learning Mate team during virtual sessions to align on pedagogical strategies and technical requirements.
Incorporate feedback from internal reviews to refine lesson flow, clarity, and assessment validity.
Ensure all content meets accessibility standards (WCAG) within the Canvas environment.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Maths, Education, or a related field.
Deep familiarity with the Florida State Maths Standards .
Proven experience in curriculum development or instructional design for K-12
Maths.
Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience building content within the Canvas LMS .
Ability to distill complex scientific concepts into 20-minute instructional 'bites' without losing depth or accuracy.
Preferred
Master's degree in Maths Education or Instructional Technology.
Valid teaching certification for Middle School Maths or Elementary Education with a Maths focus.
Experience in educational publishing or digital-first curriculum projects.
Skills and Attributes
Precision and Clarity: Excellent technical writing skills with the ability to explain scientific concepts to young learners.
Time Management: Ability to design content that strictly adheres to specific timing constraints (the 20/10 split).
Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to align assessment items directly to state-specific performance indicators.
Adaptability: Proficiency in working remotely and attending virtual collaboration sessions.
Detail-Oriented: A meticulous approach to verifying scientific data and ensuring logical lesson sequencing.
