OT Technician

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure all equipment is ready before surgery in working condition: anaesthesia machine, single or multichannel monitor, pulse oximeter, diathermy machine, C-arm, OT table, portable suction, OT light, laparoscopic machine, harmonic scalpel, etc.

• Operate and maintain all medical equipment in the operation theatre

• Ensure central supply of oxygen and nitrous oxide, and central suction are available and working

• Ensure availability of portable suction apparatus

• Impart training to juniors / new inductees

• Position the patient according to the surgery

• Assist anesthetists and surgeons during surgery for intubation, extubation, IV infusions, blood transfusions, and emergency situations

• Ensure the anesthetic machine is ready with ET tube, jelly, airways spray, plasters, eye ointment, injections, syringes, and IV infusion materials

• Assist anesthetist for general, spinal, epidural, and local anesthesia

• Wash, dry, and pack epidural sets

• Follow infection control and protection protocols

• Arrange intra-operative X-rays and coordinate with radiographer for image intensifier

• Ensure availability of equipment like ultrasound and C-arm; make arrangements if not available

• Operate and maintain operative lights as per surgeon's instructions

• Maintain Boyle's apparatus; check oxygen and nitrogen cylinders, central supply line, flow meters, cylinder key, urine bags, masks, corrugated tubes, soda lime connectors

• Accompany patient while shifting to operation room and recovery room

• Ensure patient privacy and safety

• Ensure IV bottles, lines, and syringes with medications are labeled properly with date and time

• Follow waste disposal protocol

• Follow personal safety measures (TLD badges, use of lead apron)

• Participate and contribute to departmental quality initiatives

• Be aware of department performance and objectives

• Carry out data collection/support in data collection

• Adhere to hospital safety norms for both patient and staff

• Perform any task assigned by the superior

• Participate and contribute to training
