We are looking for an experienced Textile Design Lead to drive the creative vision and execution of Ekaya’s luxury handloom textile collections. This leadership role will be responsible for defining design direction, mentoring the design team, and overseeing the end-to-end development of collections deeply rooted in Indian handloom traditions, with a strong specialization in Banarasi and Kanjivaram weaving.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the overall design vision and strategy for textile collections
Research global and Indian fashion trends, craft techniques, yarns, materials, and weaving innovations
Conceptualize and develop seasonal and special collections, from ideation to final execution
Provide strong creative leadership with deep focus on Banarasi weaving
Guide and mentor the textile design team, fostering innovation and craft excellence
Oversee hand drawings, design developments, colour stories, and material selection
Finalize yarns, fabrics, colours, motifs, and textures in line with luxury positioning
Closely coordinate with artisans, weavers, vendors, and production teams for sampling and execution
Monitor weaving, sampling, and production processes to ensure design accuracy and quality
Analyze market trends, customer feedback, and sales insights to refine design direction
Collaborate cross-functionally with merchandising, production, marketing, and retail teams
Ensure timely delivery of collections while maintaining high craftsmanship standards
Represent the design function in internal discussions, collaborations, and craft initiatives
Requirements
Postgraduate Degree in Textile Design
10–15 years of experience in luxury textile, handloom, or heritage-focused brands
Mandatory, hands-on expertise in Banarasi and Kanjivaram weaving
Strong background in craft development and hand drawing
Proven experience leading or mentoring a design team
Exceptional design portfolio showcasing handloom and weaving expertise
Proficiency in design software along with strong manual design skills
Excellent understanding of colour, texture, yarns, and material handling
Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
High attention to detail and deep passion for Indian textiles and crafts
Ability to innovate while respecting traditional aesthetics
Open to collaborations with artisans, institutions, and external partners
