Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are looking for an Analog Design Engineer who would like to be part of a fast-growing company and feels comfortable in a start-up environment. This means that processes are still evolving, leaving plenty of room for fresh insights and knowledge sharing.
Every day at Lobster Robotics is different. Some days are structured, where you can tick off all the boxes on your to-do list, while others can be pretty hectic—such as jumping offshore for some last‑minute testing.
For a new project that will kick off shortly, we are looking to strengthen our team with additional expertise in IC design. Specifically, we are seeking an engineer who can contribute to the design, development, and testing of an analog/mixed signal CMOS IC.
About us
Lobster Robotics engineers autonomous underwater vehicles for precision seabed mapping. Our technology delivers millimetre‑scale data for offshore energy and security of critical underwater infrastructure. In the past year, we expanded to 16 people and shifted from prototype to operational deployment. We combine research depth with field pragmatism & building systems that work in the real world. Backed by strong traction from the Dutch Navy and increasing involvement in NATO trials, we’re entering a phase of rapid scaling.
We are looking for passionate team members who can independently shape and deliver the next generation of underwater perception and mapping technology.
At Lobster Robotics, we really care about making a positive impact. Instead of using big, fuel‑guzzling vessels, our autonomous tech helps cut down a ton of CO2 every time we map a spot. Plus, the seabed maps we create help scientists and decision‑makers protect and restore nature better. Our robots also keep an eye on important underwater stuff—like cables for offshore wind farms—making sure everything stays safe from any threats.
When you join Lobster, you’re part of all that good stuff.
Who we are looking for
You are an Analog Design Engineer who brings chip design experience into the team. You can take a concept from idea to tapeout independently, while also validating ideas through hands‑on prototyping with discrete components. You feel comfortable working in a small team and thrive on sparring and enjoy looking at problems from different angles. You are resilient in the face of setbacks and have a “never give up” attitude.
Strong communication skills and a flexible mindset are essential.
Skills required
Excellent understanding of analog/mixed signal chip design, testing and manufacturing
Ability to power and precision analog circuits including but not limited to amplifiers, ADCs, and DACs
Proficiency in microelectronic CAD tools like Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys Custom Compiler, or Siemens Solido
Experience with discrete analog design
Experience with PCB CAD tools like KiCAD, Altium, or Eagle
Experience in scripting with Python
Familiarity with structured design approach and/or gm/d
Experience in microelectronics EDA software system administration
Team values
For us, three things are super important: being clear, thinking outside the box, and staying safe. If something doesn’t work out, no worries — just be open about it, figure out a new way to solve it, and always keep safety front and center. If you roll with those values, you’ll fit right in in the team.
What you will be doing
As an Analog Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the detailed design, development, and testing of an analog/mixed signal ASIC for one of our measurement systems. You will own the complete IC design flow including block‑level specification, topology selection, component sizing, simulation, layout, verification, signoff, and documentation. You will work closely with the Lead Electronics Designer to bring designs from concept to production.
Expect short communication lines and minimal tedious meetings. Since you’ll be involved in the full product lifecycle, you will directly see the impact of your work on our customers.
Your teammates will be engineers from other disciplines, giving you the opportunity to collaborate across different abstraction levels.
