Fleet Mechanic Job Summary
Perform diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures and determine a course of action for damaged parts and systems. Repair malfunctioning components, retrofit engines, change brakes, adjust steering systems, replace worn-out parts, and change hydraulic fluids.
Responsibilities
- Input daily repair reports into software-based tracking programs.
- Complete pre-trip truck inspections to prioritize work accordingly.
- Use a wide variety of hand and power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
- Diagnose, service, and repair various systems found on heavy equipment, including mechanical and electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, and pneumatic systems.
- Participate in reviews of operational and mechanical safety issues related to the fleet.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance such as lubricating, oil changes, and failure analysis.
- Perform routine brake inspections and adjustments on commercial vehicles following Federal DOT requirements.
- Create work orders with clear and accurate information on repairs and services.
- Communicate with drivers and managers to ensure adherence to preventative vehicle maintenance policies.
- Order parts from approved vendors and drive the company pickup/repair truck to pick up parts when needed.
Qualifications
- Experience performing preventative maintenance services.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred (will train).
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks (a plus).
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings required by DOT.
