Substitute Van Driver - Will train
Step 0 = $21.66
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must have the physical capability of performing and perform a daily pre-trip inspection as mandated
- Must be physically able to wear a seat belt
- Be physically qualified as determined by an annual physical examination meeting the criteria established by the Ohio Department of Education, Form T-8
- Complete pre-service and in-service training, as per Rule of the Administrative Code, to operate a school van and know the Transportation Laws and Regulations prior to testing by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
- Hold a current driver’s license
- Demonstrate ability to cope with stressful situations, including students with disabilities
- Possess or upgrade skills through formal and/or in-service training related to student transportation
- Have a satisfactory work and driving record verified through references and reports from BCI, FBI, BMV, or law enforcement
- Understand the role of pupil transportation in education and meet all legal and policy requirements
- Pass pre-employment drug and all job-related drug/alcohol screens as required by Ohio law
REPORTS TO: Transportation Coordinator
SUPERVISES: Children on the bus
POSITION GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation of students
EVALUATION: Performance evaluated by the Transportation Coordinator, once a year for continuing contract, then every three years, with additional evaluations as needed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean the van and handle repairs and maintenance as needed
- Complete mandated pre-trip inspections daily
- Comply with all Ohio laws, ODE, and district policies related to drug/alcohol testing
- Obey traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
- Follow schedule and route, supervise students, and enforce rules
- Report student behavior issues and incidents accurately and promptly
- Report mechanical issues and delays
- Attend safety meetings and keep the van fueled and maintained
- Use professional language and conduct on duty
- Follow Ohio law and district policies on electronic device use
- Maintain personal grooming, punctuality, positive attitude, flexibility, and sound decision-making
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and parents, maintain confidentiality, and represent the school positively
- Perform other duties as assigned, including field trips
