Overview:
The
Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN)
is a highly skilled and versatile clinician responsible for delivering exceptional, patient-centered care across a variety of acute care settings. This role supports multiple hospital units—such as Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Procedural areas including Cath Lab Holding and PACU—requiring a high degree of adaptability and clinical expertise.
The RN in this role leverages advanced assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, and strong technical proficiency to ensure safe and effective care in fast-paced and continually changing environments. As a key contributor to patient outcomes, the Critical Care Float Pool RN demonstrates flexibility, strong critical-thinking abilities, and a commitment to clinical excellence.
This position plays an essential part in upholding the organizations standards for safety, quality, and an exceptional patient experience. Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care
Deliver comprehensive patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across multiple specialty areas.
Provide safe, high-quality care to patients with varying levels of acuity.
Emergency & Critical Response
Respond promptly to emergent and critical situations, including Code Blue, Rapid Response, trauma activations, and behavioral emergencies.
Apply advanced clinical judgment in fast-paced, high-stress scenarios.
Advanced Clinical Therapies & Medication Management
Manage complex medical therapies such as ventilators, vasoactive drips, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced cardiac life support equipment.
Safely administer medications, including high-alert medications, chemotherapy, and moderate sedation agents.
Procedures & Technical Skills
Perform and maintain competency in advanced procedures, including central line care, chest tube management, wound vac therapy, arterial line monitoring, and peritoneal dialysis.
Ensure procedural accuracy and adherence to evidence-based practices.
Collaboration & Care Coordination
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support continuity of care during admissions, transfers, procedures, and discharges.
Communicate effectively to ensure seamless transitions across units.
Safety, Compliance & Professional Standards
Adhere to hospital policies regarding patient safety, infection prevention, hazardous drug handling, radiation safety, and equipment use.
Maintain professionalism, accountability, and adaptability while floating between diverse clinical environments.
Patient & Family Support
Provide compassionate, patient- and family-centered care, including education, emotional support, and assistance with end-of-life care.
Serve as a supportive resource to patients and families throughout the care experience.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of acute care nursing experience
At least 2 years experience in the ICU, ED, or Progressive Care setting
Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to multiple clinical settings.
