Nature of Work, Essential Functions & KSA's

The Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, programming, and staff supervision at Camp Mingo. This leadership role ensures a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for all campers by developing and managing camp schedules, managing staff performance, maintaining safety standards, and providing excellent communication with families. Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position.

Essential

Functions
  • Supervise and manage a team of camp counselors, assigning tasks and providing guidance and feedback
  • Lead daily camp operations, including implementation of all scheduled activities and special events
  • Plan, organize, and adapt weekly camp schedules that balance recreation, education, and enrichment
  • Directly supervise campers during swim times, including in‑water participation
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for both campers and staff
  • Communicate daily with parents/guardians during camper drop‑off and pick‑up to build relationships and address concerns
  • Monitor camper behavior and respond effectively to discipline or safety‑related incidents
  • Ensure all camp safety, emergency, and health procedures are followed at all times
  • Greet campers and families upon arrival; orient new participants to camp rules and routines
  • Coordinate supply purchases within budgetary guidelines and ensure timely preparation of materials
  • Serve as a point of contact for camp‑related issues and elevate concerns as needed
  • Complete required documentation, reports, and administrative duties in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff to support overall camp operations

    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • The primary duties of this position are performed in a public office building environment or outdoors and may work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, to conduct face‑to‑face and telephone conversations and communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written materials.

  • Training, Experience, and Qualifications
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
      • Associate or bachelor's degree in recreation, education, child development or a related field preferred
    • One (1) or more years of experience supervising children in a recreational or educational setting; prior camp leadership strongly preferred
    • CPR/First Aid certification required
    • Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License
