Nature of Work, Essential Functions & KSA's

Under the immediate supervision of the Camp Director, and the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and Superintendent, the Assistant Camp Director is the go-to person for all things at Camp Mingo for the City of Delaware. Your job will include many responsibilities, all with the goal of creating a memorable and meaningful camp experience for your campers. As an Assistant Director, you have oversight of camp programs and will enjoy infusing your own creativity and talents into the weekly schedule.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead and engage campers in daily activities while ensuring safety and fun
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing the daily camp schedule
  • Supervise counselors and delegate tasks; provide guidance and performance feedback
  • Actively supervise swimming activities from within the water
  • Welcome and orient campers and families at arrival; communicate with parents during pick-up and drop-off
  • Enforce camp rules and review emergency procedures with campers and staff
  • Prepare materials and activities ahead of time
  • Support in resolving camper behavior concerns and respond to parent inquiries
  • Collaborate with the Camp Director on program improvements and operation needs
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • The primary duties of this position are performed in a public office building environment or outdoors and may work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, to conduct face-to-face and telephone conversations and communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written materials.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.
  • Sufficient body flexibility, personal mobility and strength, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office setting, to sit for extended periods and to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Training, Experience, and Qualifications
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent
    • CPR/First Aid certification required
    • Possession of a valid Ohio Driver License
