Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA)

Job Description

The Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community.

Responsibilities
  • Report incidents involving residents, including care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, or ED)
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living
  • Perform housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room, etc., as directed by supervisor
  • Respond promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts
  • Remain calm and competent during emergencies
  • Assist in planning and conducting activity programs for residents
  • Follow confidentiality policies regarding the release of resident information
  • Assist residents to and from the dining room, and to and from activities
  • Check on residents, ensuring attendance at meals and activities; check on residents who are ill and report status or concerns to appropriate individuals
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers
  • Assist new residents with move-in transition and provide emotional support
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successfully completed approved personal care aide program per state regulations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
  • Contributing member of nursing team and follows instruction of supervisor
  • Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs
  • Ability to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
  • In designated uniform during working hours, including name badge
  • CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
  • Ability to represent the community in a positive and professional manner
  • Attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
