This paraprofessional position supports the educational and personal needs of students. The role involves physical responsibilities, including assisting with mobility, such as lifting students in and out of wheelchairs and providing personal care support. The paraprofessional will assist teachers by adapting instructional activities, reinforcing academic and behavioral skills, and monitoring student safety and conduct. Accurate data tracking related to student progress and goals is essential.
Strong collaboration with staff and sensitivity to individual student needs are key, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development. This position plays a vital role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Eligible for Delaware Paraprofessional Certification through one of the following:
- High School Diploma plus passing the Paraprofessional Assessment
- Completion of at least two years (60 credits) at an institution of higher learning
- Associate's degree or higher
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including but not limited to:
- Assisting students with mobility and transitions, including lifting in and out of wheelchairs as needed
- Assisting with personal care tasks such as changing students for bath rooming
- Experience working with students receiving special education services preferred
- Ability to track and record data accurately
- Assist with instructional activities for individual students or groups as assigned
- Record data related to individual student progress and goals
- Adapt and modify instructional activities and materials to meet student needs
- Adjust instructional methods in response to student abilities and developmental levels
- Reinforce academic skills and appropriate behaviors as taught by the teacher
- Respond to student behavioral needs with respect and appropriateness
- Monitor student activities and behavior to ensure safety and adherence to conduct standards
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative relationships with staff and students
- Assist teachers in evaluating student progress and provide individualized or small group support based on instructional guidelines
- Work sensitively with students receiving special education services and attend to their specialized needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
7.5 hours/day - 185 days per school year. Salary and work year to be according to the current salary schedule.
Salary and BenefitsSalary range and benefits align with qualifications and experience as per the Milford School District Board of Education Policy.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
