Bechtol Engineering is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Engineering Division for Materials Testing. Bechtol operates an in-house FDOT/CMEC-certified laboratory that works closely with our team of 25+ trained and certified managers/technicians in order to provide comprehensive testing services for any construction site.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate directly with our field/lab team and clients, prepare project proposals and technical reports, and oversee quality control testing to support successful project outcomes. The position offers a balanced blend of laboratory, office, and field work, providing excellent variety and flexibility.

- Oversee and conduct field / laboratory tests on construction materials (asphalt, concrete, soil and steel)
- Analyze test results to ensure materials comply with project specifications, industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO), and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with Engineers, contractors, construction teams, and project managers to ensure timely completion of testing and inspection.
- Prepare proposals, reports, and data analysis for clients, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- EI license is required.
- Proficiency in materials testing methods and standards is preferred (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, DOT).
- Knowledge of laboratory testing equipment for soil compaction, concrete strength, etc.
- Project management and organizational skills.
