Primary Purpose:

Supervise and lead the HVAC service team and all HVAC-related operations for the District Maintenance Department. Responsibilities include scheduling, assessment, repair, replacement, and optimization of HVAC systems district wide. Oversee and manage the Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure energy efficiency and comfort. Maintain facilities in excellent operating condition to support uninterrupted educational use and provide a safe, climate-controlled, functional, and attractive environment.

Provide leadership, technical training, and support to HVAC staff while coordinating HVAC/BAS schedules for campus and district-level events in alignment with district goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certification
-
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • EPA Universal Certification / Refrigerant Recovery Certification
  • Valid TDLR Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractor's License (Class A, B, or

    C), or ability to obtain within one year (district-paid)
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Other Requirements
  • Must be familiar with current NEC and HVAC codes and revisions
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC control software, controllers, electrical circuits, and controller firmware
  • Must successfully complete a fingerprint-based background check (approximately $50, applicant-paid)
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record (must meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility)
Knowledge/Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial HVAC, heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems
  • Ability to independently operate, troubleshoot, and optimize HVAC and BAS systems
  • Knowledge of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, condensers, and VFDs
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping, and computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, contractors, and district stakeholders
Experience:
  • At least five (5) years' experience in Commercial HVAC service
  • Two (2) years' supervisory experience, preferred
  • Knowledge of service techniques and ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and schematics
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve HVAC system malfunctions and issues
  • Knowledge and ability to service / maintain / repair boilers, cooling towers and chillers
  • Working knowledge of various automated controls systems
  • Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to operate lifts, hand and electric tools
  • Knowledge of OAU and HRU - Valent, Aaon, and Annexair manufacturers
Major Responsibilities and Duties

HVAC Operations & Supervision
  • Receive, assign, and track HVAC work orders; ensure timely completion and documentation
  • Supervise HVAC staff and coordinate work with other maintenance supervisors
  • Install, diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC systems and components
  • Perform and oversee preventive maintenance programs
  • Repair, replace, and calibrate HVAC controls, thermostats, wiring, and electrical components
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to HVAC technicians
  • Work in conjunction with other Maintenance Supervisors to complete projects assigned to the Maintenance Department.
  • Manage / Install / Diagnose / Maintain various types of HVAC systems. (Chillers, Boilers, Pumps, Air handlers, Variable frequency drivers, mini split, related systems and equipment)
