Licensed Vocational Nurse – Full Time (Altus Community Healthcare)

The Emergency Room LVN provides direct nursing care to an assigned group of patients and performs nursing procedures within the scope of their education and demonstrated abilities under the supervision of a RN.

• Perform vitals, blood draws, IV insertions, EKGs on patients when indicated
• Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients
• Participate in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care given, including admission, discharge, and transfer procedures
• Use and modify the nursing plan of care under supervision as appropriate
• Observe and record signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including physiological status, and present proposed revisions of interventions and desired outcomes
• Deliver nursing interventions consistent with the stated medical plan of care
• Notify appropriate nursing and medical staff of changes in patient status; recognize patient care priorities, multidisciplinary treatment plans, and potential patient care crises
• Follow physician's orders in the delivery of nursing care
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of patient health information
• Safely and properly administer medications and treatments
• Execute written physician orders for assigned patients
• Assemble equipment and supplies for diagnostic or treatment procedures; assist others with procedures or treatments
• Adhere to infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques
• Document nursing care in all assigned patient records
• Adhere to internal controls established for the department
• Perform related duties as required

• ER experience is required
• Licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas
• Current BLS Certification
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to write simple correspondence
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percent and to interpret bar graphs
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
• Basic computer skills

• Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature
• Occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects
• Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials
• Vision: close (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus

• Comfortable indoor area
• Potential noise, odors, cramped workspace, and/or fumes could cause discomfort
• Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation, and disoriented or combative patients
