JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs specialized work associated with operations and maintenance of a water treatment plant to ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitors operations to determine efficiency of the Water Treatment Plant and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Checks for signs of equipment and treatment deficiencies.
  • Monitors charts denoting water levels in ground and elevated storage tanks.
  • Reviews and analyzes data results and instrument readings.
  • Inspects equipment and monitors operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.
  • Makes required adjustments.
  • Oversees operations of injection wells.
  • Maintains all daily logs.
  • Serves on standby crew for after-hours emergency work as required.
  • Works rotating shift, 24/7/ 365.
  • Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in working with the maintenance/construction of a water treatment plant system is preferred.
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, and criminal history background check.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral job instructions.
  • Ability to hear clearly when working around equipment or in street and alley traffic.
  • Knowledge of the procedures pertaining to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a water treatment plant or membrane system.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods employed in water or sewer main construction or maintenance.
  • Skilled in the use and care of job-related hand and power tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, other departments, and the general public.
  • Skilled in courteously and effectively working with the public.
Other Conditions of Employment
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class “D” Water Certificate of Competency within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class “C” Groundwater Certificate of Competency within two (2) years of appointment.
