Join Our Team as a Full-Time Telecommunicator!
Looking for a communications center where you can build strong connections with officers and firefighters? If so, we may be the perfect fit for you! Our Telecommunicators play a vital role in public safety and are based in the DeKalb Police Department.
What You’ll Do- Receive, prioritize and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and EMS
- Handle calls from multiple sources including an NG9-1-1 system, text-to-911, video-to-911, video relay services, social media, and alarm systems.
- Operate a multi-channel radio console with multiple computer terminals to dispatch and manage calls for service.
- Accurately enter and update information in a computer-aided dispatch system following established procedures.
No Experience? No problem!
We offer a comprehensive training program to prepare you for success.
Experienced? Great!
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to type 35 words per minute.
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to obtain required certifications, including:
- LEADS 3.0 Full Access (within 30 days)
- Illinois State Police Telecommunicator Sexual Assault/Abuse Training (within 30 days)
- 40-hour Power Phone Public Safety Dispatch Course (during training)
- CPR/AED Certification (within agreed timeframe)
- Illinois Emergency Medical Dispatcher License (before training completion)
- Prior experience is a plus—but we’re happy to train the right candidate!
Salary & Benefits:
- Starting pay rate with no experience: $57,033. Lateral candidates prior experience will be reviewed for placement within the salary range.
