We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Developer in a fast‑paced, complex business environment. Responsible for continuing the modernization of our applications, geared towards observability, scalability, resiliency and speed of delivery without compromising on Spend within our payments ecosystem, including Discover's consumers. The position is located in Riverwoods, Illinois. Work hours are 8 am to 5 pm.

Education:

No degree required.

• Build and release reliable software systems at scale.
• Partner with enterprise‑wide teams to develop and maintain full‑stack solutions that fit our business needs.
• Use a holistic view of all products and their interactions to design elegant solutions and strategize the future state of our larger technical ecosystem.
• Independently innovate and advocate for best practices, solve complex problems and guide the team on implementing solutions from inception to production.
• Have 8+ years of experience.
• Analyze, design, program, test and deploy new user stories and epics with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production.
• Mentor Associate Application Engineers, provide learning tasks, direct the work of Senior Associate Application Engineers and help them grow.
• Achieve team commitments and influence others to do the same using informal leadership and highly developed communication skills.
• Have oversight on fragmentation decisions and guide the team to achieve key results for assigned products.
• Remediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions for potential failures.
• Contribute to and potentially lead technology communities at Discover.
• Follow Agile methodology and work in two‑week sprints; each engineer writes their own test scripts for full automation.

• Desired skills and experience: OCP, AWS, Liquibase, Jenkins.
