The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for Shepard Theater technical assets and facilities. The TD oversees production-related technical operations, including set construction, lighting, and sound, as well as facility maintenance. Key to this position is a strong work ethic centered on excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships and communications with students, parent volunteers, and staff.

This position reports to the Director.

Salary - $51/Per hour

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as lead set builder for all productions.
  • Coordinate and actively manage volunteer work parties, set builds, paint calls, strikes, rentals, and other events with students and community members (2-4 weekend dates).
  • Teach students basic carpentry, paint, rigging, prop building, and electrics in addition to proper theatrical production process.
  • Convene, manage, and supervise weekly student production meetings in the 2-3 months leading up to each show.
  • Assist show production team with tech rehearsals, throughout tech week, and during the 3 performance run of the show.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies to ensure a safe work environment in the backstage and stage areas.
  • Purchase, lease, and/or borrow equipment as needed, within specified budgetary limits.
  • Advise Executive Director on the technical specifications, budgets, costs, and equipment required for individual shows.
  • Assist show directors and designers with questions relating to safety, feasibility, and equipment capabilities of design elements.
  • Work with students to create sound and lighting set up and design.
  • Facilitate and teach students to set up, run, and maintain sound system, microphones, stage lights and all backstage equipment.
  • Maintain excellent communication with the Director and Buildings & Grounds before, during, and after the show run to maintain a safe stage environment, set, equipment, and tools.
