We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Manager, Customs & Compliance to support and manage key components of Fortune Brands Innovations’ customs operations. This role will be responsible for executing and maintaining compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations, supporting import/export processes, managing HTS classification accuracy, and partnering with cross‑functional teams and external service providers. The Manager will support continuous improvement efforts, maintain required reporting through systems such as ACE, and help ensure compliance with free trade agreements and duty programs.
This position provides leadership to customs team members, along with day‑to‑day oversight for customs processes and external partners.
Position location: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (3x per week; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) based out of Deerfield, IL. Fortune Brands has transitioned to a new world‑class campus in Deerfield, bringing together associates from across our U.S. offices, brands, and functions. Responsibilities- Support and manage customs operations, broker management, and exception resolution, to ensure compliance with all U.S. and applicable international trade regulations.
- Ensure accurate HTS classifications and country of origin for imported and exported products.
- Ensure compliance with USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including qualification analysis and ongoing validation.
- Leverage ACE portal and reporting tools to monitor compliance and support internal reporting.
- Coordinate with external brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies as required.
- Oversee customs broker performance, including clearance prior to arrival and issue resolution.
- Maintain and update broker Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent execution and compliance.
- Support reconciliation, audits, and internal reviews related to import compliance.
- Partner with internal teams—including supply chain, sourcing, legal, and plant operations—to ensure end‑to‑end compliance.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Support maquila operations when needed.
- Contribute to development and enhancement of customs processes, SOPs, and controls.
- Travel as required to support business operations.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in customs, trade compliance, or a related field.
- Brokerage license required.
- Strong working knowledge of HTS classification, import/export processes, and customs regulations.
- Experience with ACE portal reporting and related compliance tools.
- Familiarity with USMCA and other free trade agreements.
- Experience with customs software platforms; GTM experience is a plus.
- Understanding of U.S./Canada/Mexico cross‑border processes.
