Parks Aide - Deerfield Park

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Parks Aide at Deerfield Island Park.

The Parks Aide position will work at Deerfield Island Park and should be comfortable working outside, on the water, and must have prior boating experience. Duties will include, but are not limited to, operating patron shuttle boat, facilities maintenance, trail maintenance, and other duties as assigned. This position will work Wednesday through Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM (schedule is subject to change based upon operational needs).

Deerfield Island Park is a 53.3-acre nature-oriented park, a nature-oriented refuge rich in both regional history flora and fauna offering a variety of amenities, including walking trails, boardwalk, picnic area, and butterfly garden along with environmental education opportunities. Accessible only by boat, located on the Intracoastal Waterway at Hillsboro Boulevard.

Performs a variety of park maintenance and program implementation activities at assigned facilities.

Assists skilled trades staff based on area of assignment.

Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

• Six (6) months in general grounds and facility maintenance, customer service, recreational activities, and/or a point of sale system based on area of assignment or closely related experience.
• Must possess prior boating experience (small boats).

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Possess a Boating Captain's License.
• Possess a Florida Boating Certificate.
• Possess a Tree Trimming License or Certification.
• Possess First Aid/CPR certification.
• Three (3) or more years' of work experience operating a boat.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

• Interacts with the public and other County employees to give directions or information, explain work activities/procedures, identify service needs, and/or resolve day-to-day operational issues; collects fees and operates a cash register or point of sale software based on area of assignment.
• Maintains a variety of landscape and construction related equipment in order to ensure that the equipment operates safely and appropriately when needed, extending the useful life of the equipment, minimizing downtime, and minimizing major repair/replacement costs.
• Inspects park facilities, including play areas, buildings, parking areas, to ensure a safe work and recreation environment for employees and the public; performs facility maintenance work to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary environment.
• Sets up and takes down temporary facilities, traffic control devices for meetings, special activities, and events to provide a safe, comfortable location with efficient traffic flow for special events/activities.
• Prepares a variety of log sheets to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.
• Picks up and delivers a variety of items to appropriate locations to ensure supplies and materials are available where and when needed and/or delivers mail.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery; toxic/caustic chemicals.
