Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides basic nursing skills and care within the patient and family centered care model. Nursing skills include assisting with personal care, phlebotomy, EKG and basic nursing skills, etc. to facilitate quality service outcomes.

• Enrollment in BSN program & completion of at least third year of program.
• Or enrollment in Associate Nursing program with completion of at least one year of nursing curriculum.
• Or completion of BSN/Associate Nursing program w/application to take NCLEX. Extending expected graduation date, due to failing grades or dropping out of a Nursing program is a condition for automatic termination as a Nurse Extern.

After graduation, the extern may apply for employment as a Registered Nurse and may be hired, based on meeting the educational and experience criteria, as well as availability of position openings for the Registered Nurse job description. In either case, employment as a Nurse Extern I will cease up to 3 months after graduation.

• One year of clinical experience as a Nursing Assistant in a health care setting is preferred.

• AHA or American Red Cross BLS
