Pathologists' Assistant position at HCA Healthcare
. This is a PRN opportunity with HCA Healthcare, a leading provider of healthcare services.

DUTIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Responsible for the organization of and efficiency of workflow processes in the frozen section and gross examination areas.
• Work closely with on-site Pathologists in determining grossing priorities.
• Take instruction from on-site Pathologists with respect to grossing technique and quality assessment.
• Confer with and share with other HCA pathologist assistants relevant information to facilitate productivity and knowledge sharing.
• Triage specimens received from surgery; dictate gross findings using appropriate terminology; refer tissue sections for microscopic review by Pathologist or Resident.
• Select and identify tissue for microscopic study; determine proper fixative solutions for preservation.
• Perform specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification; maintain and coordinate specimen and records for specialized procedures; submit requests for special histological procedures and stains when appropriate.
• Maintain records of surgical pathology dissections and dictation; assist in the compilation of reports for surgical pathology; label and store gross tissue specimens.
• Photograph specimen samples as appropriate for instruction and documentation; perform photo microscopy on cases considered for interdepartmental conferences or teaching; maintain complete and accurate records of all gross and microscopic photographs.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
• Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement”.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Master’s degree preferred

Experience:

• Minimum three to five years’ experience in a pathology histology laboratory setting

Certification / License:

• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists preferred
• 3-5 years grossing experience in a hospital setting accepted in lieu of ASCP Certification or Master’s degree
