Summary Objective
The Summer Camp Jr Counselor position is for candidates who are 16 years or older. Under the direction of the camp Leadership Team, the Jr Counselor participate and provide guidance to campers through a variety of activities that may occur indoors and/or outdoors. Jr Counselor may assist Camp Supervisors with pre‑arranged activities/recreational themes, help with set up and tidying of activity areas, engage/play with campers during free times, and assist with other routine functions such as camper check‑in/out and completion of daily checklists.
EssentialFunctions
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Interacts with campers and staff in parks/facilities.
- Observes and respects all policies, procedures, staff, and campers.
- Attends all camp field trips.
- Assists in planning and organizing games & activities.
- Assists in gathering members of groups for participation in each specialized activity.
- Assists in issuing & collecting of games and equipment.
- Assists with overseeing and controlling assigned age group.
- Assists Camp Counselors and the Camp Leadership Team.
- Assists campers on site and on field trips.
- Act as a role model to camp participants, co-workers, and camp parents in both attitude and appropriate behavior, remaining professional and respectful, as described in the staff manual.
- Participates in all camp activities both indoors and outdoors.
Education and Experience Requirements)
- Must be 16 years or older at the time of application.
- First Aid and CPR Certification is mandatory and must be current throughout summer camp.
- Must be able to work for the entire duration of the summer program.
- Must be able to interact with children effectively.
- Must be able to communicate problems in a camp setting to supervisor.
- Prior experience working with children coordinating activities for children ages 5 – 12 in school, camp or recreational setting.
- Prior Babysitting or volunteering experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of park and recreation activities is a plus.

- Ability to interact well with fellow employees, participants and parents/guardians.
- Must have the ability to ensure cleanliness of parks and grounds, and identify potential problems in a camp setting.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and understand written instruction.
- Possess the ability to effectively communicate verbally and understand/comprehend oral written instruction.
