Assistant Site Supervisors provide assistance, lead, supervise and maintain quality control of assigned summer camp program site, campers and counselors. This is a temporary position, working with children 5 through 15 years of age. Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Assistant Site Supervisor will assist in planning, implementing and participating in well‑organized and varied indoor and outdoor recreational/athletic activities and special events.
Assistant Site Supervisors are responsible for supporting day‑to‑day camp operations, administrative duties, supervision and safety of all summer camp program participants.
Essential Functions- Provide leadership to camp counselors and campers.
- Ensure staff complies with policies and procedures set by The City of Deerfield Beach, including record keeping, adherence to uniform policies and attendance.
- Ensure staff and campers maintain daily scheduled routines, traditions and programming.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and program areas.
- Assist in supervising up to 16 staff members and up to 150 children daily.
- Teach young staff to foster positive youth development.
- Assist in program content and structure while working closely with the Site Supervisor, camp leadership, parents and families.
- Oversee all camp activities to ensure appropriate counselor coverage and participate in all recreational activities (pool, art/crafts, sports, games, etc.).
- Regulate check‑in/out procedures by requiring all adults and checking registration forms.
- Supervise and provide a safe and healthy environment, physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality children’s program.
- Organize, lead and provide a variety of high‑quality small and large group activities each week, including crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, Family Night, and time on the bus.
- Manage children’s behavior and act as a role model and mentor; model constructive participation in all daily activities and field trips.
- Communicate with campers’ parents/guardians regarding experiences and report concerns to camp leadership.
- Ensure all children in the assigned group are accounted for onsite and on field trips; conduct headcounts for groups when loading buses and at trip arrival/departure and throughout the day.
- Keep the camp site presentable at all times, clean, organized and free of litter.
- Interact effectively and professionally with employees, program participants, supervisors, staff, instructors and the general public.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation and daily attendance.
- Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance, essential functions of the position.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Maintain full attendance for the nine‑week summer and attend all staff meetings and training.
- Other duties and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- Prior experience working with children ages 5–15; minimum one (1) season of paid experience with a summer camp, school or recreational program; certified teachers with a minimum of one (1) year teaching experience; one (1) year previous summer recreation leader experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent certificate.
- First Aid and CPR Certification is mandatory and must remain current throughout camp.
