Project Accountant

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Salary: $90,000–$100,000 (commensurate with experience)

A well-established commercial general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support active construction projects from pre-bill through closeout. This role partners closely with project management and leadership to ensure accurate project financials, timely billing, and compliance with contractual requirements.

This role requires a minimum of 5+ years of Project Accounting experience with a commercial general contractor and strong proficiency with AIA billing.

• Attend project turnover meetings for newly assigned jobs
• Set up and maintain electronic project files for all assigned projects
• Input and maintain contract values, budgets, change orders, purchase orders, and subcontract modifications in Computer Ease
• Prepare project billing worksheets and generate monthly AIA billings
• Review and approve job-related check requests
• Process job-related accounts payable and ensure invoices are properly coded
• Review overhead statements to confirm all job costs are accounted for
• Track and report project financial progress through regular analysis and reporting
• Post monthly AR and AP activity to support month-end close
• Prepare and submit weekly project accounting checklists
• Participate in monthly project review and closeout meetings
• Assist with special accounting projects as needed
• Partner closely with Project Executives, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators
• Proactively communicate risks, issues, or discrepancies to leadership
• Provide clear, timely written and verbal communication

• 5+ years of Project Accounting experience with a commercial general contractor (required)
• Strong proficiency with AIA billing (required)
• Experience using Computer Ease (required)
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, lookups, indexing)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word
• Ability to read and interpret contracts and related legal documents
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Experience with Procore
• Education
• Associate degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
