Position Overview
Dedham Public Schools is seeking three Dance Instructors in Global Dance to launch an innovative pilot program at the middle school level (11-14 year old students). We are looking for professional, energetic, and culturally-grounded instructors specializing in one or more diverse dance forms (e.g., Afro-Caribbean, Bharatanatyam, Irish Step, Hip-Hop, Latin Social Dance, etc.).
The goal of this initiative is to expand student perspectives through movement, fostering both physical literacy and global awareness. As a key contributor to this pilot, you will help shape the future of dance education within our district.
Key Responsibilities
* Instruction:
Lead 5-6 dynamic dance sessions per day within the Physical Education department.
* Collaboration:
Work alongside 1-2 PE staff members who will assist with classroom management and student engagement.
* Cultural Context:
Provide brief introductory context for the dance forms being taught (history, origin, or cultural significance).
* Engagement:
Motivate middle school students of all skill levels to participate and explore new ways of moving.
Shift Details & Logistics
* Hours:
8:15 am - 2:35 pm (Includes a dedicated lunch break from 11:38 am - 12:59 pm).
* Commitment: 2 days total. We prefer two consecutive days to ensure all students have an opportunity to participate.
* Environment: A supportive, co-taught setting within the Dedham Middle School gymnasium or athletic facilities. You will be supported by one or two PE teachers who are familiar with the students.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated expertise in a specific cultural dance form or a range of diverse styles.

* A passion for inclusivity and cultural representation in the arts.

* Completed ISS form
Why this role is unique
This is NOT a substitute position; it is a grant-funded specialist residency. Successful candidates will be instrumental in proving the value of diverse arts integration, potentially leading to expanded opportunities in future semesters.
