We are currently looking for a Charge Crane Operator to join our team in Decatur, Illinois.
Purpose of PositionReporting to the Department Supervisor, the Charge Crane Operator is responsible for controlling the operation of the overhead magnet crane.
Task and Responsibilities- Operate an overhead crane from a remote control safely and efficiently.
- Regulate the addition of charges of revert material, scrap steel, and ingot in the correct proportions to the charge system.
- Add necessary materials to the furnace per melt deck operator's instructions.
- Safely unload raw material deliveries to charge storage area.
- Prepare charge materials for addition to melt furnaces.
- Keep aisles clear and unobstructed in the charge makeup area.
- Keep the charge area clean and organized.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Adhere to Nortrak’s Safety, Quality and Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
- High school graduate or GED preferred.
- Forklift and crane certification preferred.
- Basic mathematical calculation experience in adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Proficient in using measuring tools such as rulers and tape measures.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, inspection test plans (ITPs) and blueprints preferred.
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and pushing, pulling, or lifting objects throughout the shift.
- Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle materials, and reach throughout the shift.
- Regularly lift and carry 30–35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Hearing: necessary to perform job tasks safely and effectively.
