Title: SHE & Quality Manager (Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality)
Location: Decatur, Alabama
The SHEQ Manager achieves positive results through emphasis on effective Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality processes and stewardship, decision-making, problem solving, resource management, and teamwork. This position plays a key role in creating and implementing long and short-range departmental strategies for the Decatur facility. The SHEQ leadership role at the polystyrene manufacturing facility carries full Environmental ownership, PSM accountability, Quality & ISO oversight, and significant regulatory-facing responsibility.
This is a regulatory, compliance, and governance leadership position.
- Own all Environmental compliance activities, including permitting, regulatory reporting, inspections, testing, and agency submissions.
- Serve as the primary regulatory interface with federal, state, and local agencies.
- Provide site leadership for Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance and regulatory readiness.
- Provide regulatory oversight and leadership for site safety programs.
- Supervise the Site Safety Specialist and ensure safety regulatory changes are identified, interpreted, and implemented.
- Own the site Quality Management System, including ISO oversight and audit readiness.
- Provide leadership oversight of laboratory operations through direct supervision of the Lab Supervisor.
- Lead customer quality issue escalation and corrective action governance.
- Oversee Occupational Health services, including contractor nurse management.
- Provide leadership oversight for site security programs and upgrades.
- Serve as a trained site spokesperson during emergencies or crisis situations when required.
- Lead and develop a small, multidisciplinary team (Safety Specialist, Lab Supervisor, contractor nurse).
- Act as a key member of the site leadership team, contributing to operational decisions, contractor strategy, and risk management.
- Participate in internal and external audits and broader business initiatives as opportunities arise.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Safety, or a related technical discipline.
- 8–10+ years of progressive experience in Environmental, Safety, Quality, OR Process Safety roles.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong background in Environmental compliance within a manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environment.
- Experience with environmental permitting, inspections, and regulatory agency engagement.
- Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and OSHA regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements in complex or ambiguous situations.
