Community Support Specialist – Decatur, Illinois
  • High School or GED + 5 years’ experience:$23.00/hour + every other Friday paid off
  • Bachelor’s Degree:$25.00/hour + every other Friday paid off
  • Salary is based on education, experience, and licensure or certification

Schedule: Full-Time | Every other Friday off (paid wellness day) | Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm

Your Role:
Community Support Specialist

As a Community Support Specialist serving individuals in Macon County, you will provide community-based mental health services that help individuals build independence, enhance daily living skills, improve emotional wellness, and remain stable in their homes and communities.

You will play a key role in helping clients reduce hospitalizations, increase natural supports, navigate systems, and achieve their personal recovery goals. This is a highly rewarding, relationship-based position for someone who enjoys being out in the community and making a meaningful impact every day.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide community-based skill-building and support services to adults with mental health or co-occurring needs.
  • Assist clients in developing skills related to daily living, symptom management, problem-solving, socialization, and emotional regulation.
  • Support clients in crisis prevention, early intervention, and consistent follow‑up to maintain stability.
  • Help individuals access community resources such as housing, benefits, education, employment, and medical care.
  • Collaborate with behavioral health providers, primary care, community agencies, and natural supports to ensure coordinated services.
  • Document services in accordance with agency and state requirements.
  • Promote client independence, empowerment, dignity, and recovery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge
  • Basic understanding of mental health symptoms, recovery models, and trauma-informed care.
  • Familiarity with local social service systems and community resources.
Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging a diverse population.
  • Ability to develop trust, build rapport, and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Effective organizational and time‑management skills in a fast‑paced environment.
Abilities
  • Work independently while remaining accountable to team goals.
  • Adapt to changing client needs, home environments, and schedules.
  • Use technology effectively for documentation and communication.
  • Demonstrate cultural humility and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent + 5 years of supervised mental health or social service experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance
