Job Overview

Do you have experience working with diesel, hybrid, and electrified heavy equipment and are interested in teaching the next generation of technicians? Our Hybrid Diesel Equipment Technology (HDET) and Electric Vehicle & Energy Storage (EVES) programs are expanding to meet regional workforce demand. We are seeking a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty member to teach courses supporting medium‑ and heavy‑duty hybrid diesel and electric equipment used in transportation, construction, agriculture, and related industries.

This is a 9‑month position anticipated to begin August 2026.

  • Heavy Equipment Braking, Steering, and Suspension
  • Heavy Equipment Engine Repair
  • Electrical & Chassis Control
  • Drive trains
  • Electrical Diagnostics
  • Climate Control & Thermal Management
  • High‑Voltage and Hybrid Powertrain Systems
Responsibilities
  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success and attainment of defined learning outcomes.
  • Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods.
  • Assist in articulating courses within the division.
  • Develop, integrate, and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the Heartland Community College assessment protocols.
  • Remain current in one’s discipline.
  • Advocate for student persistence and pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff.
  • Manage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student Handbook.
  • Serve the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial work environment.
  • Participate in program review.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2,000 hours of successful work experience in diesel, heavy equipment, hybrid, or electrified vehicle systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or train others in technical environments.
  • Availability to teach daytime and/or evening courses.
  • Ability to work effectively and inclusively with diverse populations of students, employees, and industry partners.
Desired Qualifications
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or other industry‑recognized certifications.
  • Experience with hybrid diesel systems, high‑voltage systems, EVs, or electrified heavy equipment.
  • Experience using industry diagnostic tools and software.
  • Teaching, training, supervision or mentoring experience.
  • Curriculum development experience.
  • Experience with instructional technology.
  • Experience supporting or collaborating with business/industry partners.

Anticipated starting salary range for this 9‑month position is $48,356 - $65,034, plus any applicable pay for overload and/or summer assignments.

This position is based in Central Illinois and ability to be present on‑campus/in‑person is required. HCC is a multi‑campus college and this position may include teaching at a variety of sites.
