The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is an independent, statewide agency that supports the state's criminal justice system in the areas of criminal investigations, forensic laboratory services and computerized criminal justice information.
The GBI Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking qualified candidates for HR Benefits Team Lead. The HR Benefits Team Lead is a key member of the OHR team. This position leads staff and serves as a technical expert, advising GBI staff in matters related to employee benefits, leave administration, retirement, and payroll transactions.
Essential job duties for the HR Benefits Supervisor position include, but are not limited to, the following:- Serves as the agency’s payroll liaison and provides personnel action information to the Payroll Shared Services (PSS) team to ensure payroll‑related transactions are processed within the established time frames. Reviews and processes transactions accurately, including pay adjustments within a timely manner.
- Leads staff, including prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; and ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external customers, both orally and in writing. Responds to questions and provides accurate benefits, retirement, and payroll information to employees.
- Collaborates with agency staff and other state entities regarding benefits programs, workers’ compensation, and retirement concerns and resolves issues or discrepancies.
- Oversees the annual benefits Open Enrollment period and organizes annual biometric/health screening events.
- Schedules and coordinates new employee orientation and related onboarding/off‑boarding activities.
- Manages the administration of the FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, Leave Donation, Disability and other HR related programs in accordance with federal and state laws and policies and procedures.
- Interprets policies, procedures and rules for employees and managers regarding leave, benefits, retirement and other benefit related areas.
- Plans, organizes, develops training materials to meet specific training needs and administers training.
- Provides financial record‑keeping support for the HR Office.
- Manages the office purchasing card, including purchasing supplies, maintaining accurate records of transactions, receipts and adhering to purchasing card policies and procedures.
- Occasional state‑wide overnight travel is required.
- Be the purchase card holder for the Office of Human Resources.
- Must organize and manage time to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
The incumbent will occasionally be required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:This position requires the incumbent to work in an office setting which includes shared office space with other employees.
NOTE:
This position may require some travel and operating a state vehicle. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required.

High school diploma/GED and five (5) years of job‑related experience in human resources handling benefits, transactions and/or HR operations.

Three (3) years of experience at the lower level HR Spec 1 (HRP
020) or position equivalent.

High school diploma/GED and six (6) years of job‑related experience in human resources handling benefits, transactions and/ or HR operations.
