About the RoleThe Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) Nurse Manager provides clinical supervision and guidance to the nursing team to ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based, trauma‑informed psychiatric care. This position plays a key role in maintaining clinical standards of practice, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and ensuring nursing interventions align with regulatory and ethical standards. This role does not include administrative management functions such as scheduling, payroll, or disciplinary oversight.
Full‑time, primarily on‑site. Requires some evenings and weekends for observation and assessment of team performance, training, and clinical support. Exposure to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric crises. Provides direct care services 50% of the time. Works in a fast‑paced behavioral health crisis setting with potential exposure to high‑stress situations and behavioral emergencies. Must be able to respond rapidly to incidents or crises.
May require occasional evening or weekend availability for audits, unannounced quality checks, training, or emergency coverage.
- Provides clinical oversight for all clinical nursing operations within the Crisis Stabilization Unit.
- Review and provide feedback on clinical documentation, including nursing assessments, medication administration records (MARs), and treatment plans.
- Support staff in the identification and implementation of appropriate nursing interventions for individuals in psychiatric crisis.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical staffing to provide input from a nursing perspective.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff, modeling best practices in trauma‑informed care, medication management, and crisis response.
- Lead and coordinate safety initiatives, quality improvement (QI) projects, and compliance activities across BHCC services.
- Works along with BHCC Management team to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), adverse events, and incident trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Monitors the effectiveness of Quality Improvement Initiatives and ensures ongoing reporting of program outcomes to team members, agency leadership, and other stakeholders.
- In collaboration with the CSU Manager, organize and conduct internal audits to assess compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
- Facilitate post‑incident reviews, root cause analyses (RCA), and corrective action planning.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership to develop, update, and implement policies that promote safety, clinical effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
- Serves as a liaison to quality and safety committees, accreditation bodies, and external regulatory agencies (e.g., DBHDD, CARF).
- Maintains accurate documentation for audits, regulatory inspections, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate or coordinate clinical in‑service trainings, particularly related to psychopharmacology, documentation standards, emergency protocols, and seclusion/restraint reduction strategies.
- Orient new nursing staff to clinical protocols and expectations specific to the CSU.
- Maintain awareness of current trends and best practices in behavioral health nursing and share relevant updates with nursing staff.
- Works closely with program managers, medical staff, shift supervisors, and administrative personnel to integrate quality and safety into day‑to‑day operations.
