Overview
The Teacher Assistant supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children’s interests and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff.
Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.
- Assist classroom teacher with daily routines and lesson plans.
- Cover classroom routine and activities in the teacher's absence.
- Assist with different age groups as needed.
- Manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
- Follow all center policies and Bright from the Start regulations.
- Ability and willingness to work with children of differing abilities.
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Physically able to care for and interact with active children and maintain classroom environment (i.e. light cleaning, disinfecting, sweeping, pick up toys, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current, completed CDA or higher required; TCC or A.S. degree preferred
- Commitment to the field of early childhood education and child care.
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional child care experience.
- Demonstrate dependability, reliability and flexibility in assigned duties.
- High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
- Must clear full Bright from the Start background check.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
- CDA or higher
- 3+ years of professional child care experience
- Experience and willingness to work in other areas of the center such as transportation and meal preparation.
