Field Service Technician

Overview

Field Service Technician — Decatur, AL. Full-Time/Regular.

Reports To:

Region Operations Manager or Field Service Supervisor.

Field Service Technician

Performs electrical apparatus work onsite at customers facilities. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus.

• Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
• Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
• Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
• Assist in the following tests:
  Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance;
  Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper;
  Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
• Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
• Participates in safety meetings and training.

• Familiarize with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
• Ability to assist in complex mechanical and electrical problems.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
• Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred; training will be provided.
• Demonstrates punctuality for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc.
• Demonstrates organizational skills including on-time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and other documentation and reporting requirements.
• Maintains tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations.

• Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.
• Corporate hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm; hours outside this range may be required depending on scope of work.
• Work involves proximity to live electrical substations; safety is required.
• Ability to work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
• Ability to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects.
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

• Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred, but not required.
• This role is considered introductory to the industry. Other useful experience includes mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.

• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs.
• Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
• Willingness to obtain a company-paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
