Job Summary

The Assistant Plant Manager will support the Operations Manager in overseeing daily operations at the steel processing facility. This role involves managing production schedules, ensuring quality control, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in steel processing or a related heavy industrial environment, with strong leadership skills and a focus on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Operations Manager in planning, organizing, and overseeing daily operations to ensure efficient production and high-quality output.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of production supervisors and other production personnel to achieve production targets and operational goals.
  • Monitor production processes, identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure that all production activities are carried out in compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of production schedules, ensuring that materials, labor, and equipment are available to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the quality department to maintain high standards of product quality and address any quality-related issues promptly.
  • Support the Operations Manager in managing budgets, controlling costs, and ensuring the efficient use of resources.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Assist in the training and development of staff, ensuring that employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and facilities, working with the maintenance team to schedule repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Act as Plant Manager in their absence, making decisions and managing operations as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing or steel processing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong understanding of steel processing operations, including slitting, rolling, cutting, and finishing processes.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate teams to achieve operational goals.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in using production management software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and other safety standards in an industrial environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
