Job Title:
Senior Field Service Specialist - EV
Performs complex electrical apparatus work onsite at customer facilities. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus. Responsible for troubleshooting, training, establishing LOTO, interacting with customers, report writing, and related duties.
Responsibilities- Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
- Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
- Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
- Lead tasks in transformer testing (power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, leakage reactance).
- Lead cable testing (insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, cable thumper).
- Lead circuit breaker testing (insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, vacuum bottle integrity).
- Test both electrical-mechanical and solid-state relays.
- Participate in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
- Plan, participate in, and develop safety meetings and training.
- Support management in planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.
- The above list is not exhaustive; other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in PC use including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with good judgment.
- Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred; training will be provided.
- Consistently punctual for daily work, meetings, and training.
- Strong organizational skills including timely time and expense reporting, weekly status reports, and other required documentation.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and vehicles in good condition and calibrated.
- Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.
- Corporate hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm; additional hours may be required based on scope of work.
- Work near live electrical substations with safety precautions.
- Overtime, including nights, weekends, and some holidays, may be required.
- Occasional overnight, multi-day travel may be required.
- Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience is preferred but not required.
- At least 10 years of experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning.
- Ability to achieve NETA level III or IV within 6 months of employment.
- Project management experience and ability to support management in planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.
- Must pass pre-employment background and motor vehicle checks.
- Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test, and periodic unannounced random testing.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle up to 26k lbs.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
- Willing to obtain company-paid TWIC, OSHA 10/30, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
