Job DescriptionThe Auto Club Group is seeking a dedicated Claim Specialist who will work with minimal supervision, using high-level approval authority to manage complex technical issues and claims.
In this position, you will:
- Handle complex coverage analysis and ensure all potential policyholder benefits are identified.
- Create or add sub‑claims as needed and investigate the facts of each claim to determine eligibility, limits, exclusions, and recovery potential.
- Review damages, assess state law applicability, and evaluate the financial value of the loss.
- Approve payments and refer claims to other units (Underwriting, Recovery, or Claims Special Investigation) when appropriate.
- Document and code claim files, completing closure activities in the claims management system.
- Employ strong negotiating skills throughout the claim process.
- Work closely with insureds, physicians, and medical insurance carriers to obtain necessary information for claim review and determination.
The role is primarily remote, with occasional travel for meetings or team activities as directed.

- Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience.
- Legally eligible to acquire a State Adjuster's license within 90 days of hire, if required.
- Valid driver's license if in-person inspections or frequent meetings are part of the role.
- Three years of experience (or equivalent training) in negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing estimates, subrogation, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing clear resolution plans.
- Advanced knowledge of Michigan Essential Insurance Act, Michigan Fair Trade Practices Act, subrogation procedures, intercompany arbitration, and simple litigation handling.
- Advanced knowledge of Negligence Law, No‑Fault Law, medical terminology, human anatomy, MCCA, and attorney‑represented claims.
- Handle claims to line Claim Handling Standards.
- Follow and apply ACG Claim policies and procedures.
- Operate within assigned ACG Claim systems, including basic PC software.
- Perform basic claim file review and investigations.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Provide customer service, building relationships with insureds/claimants while addressing concerns.
- Analyze and solve problems, exercising sound decision‑making.
- Prioritize claim functions and process time‑sensitive data from multiple sources.
- Manage time, organize, and plan workload.
- Research, analyze, and interpret subrogation laws across states.
- Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Completion of the Insurance Institute of America's General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent.
- CPCU coursework or designation.
