Job DescriptionRedefining mobility requires quality data, metrics and analytics, as well as insightful interpreters and analysts. In the Global Data Insight & Analytics team we advise leadership on business conditions, customer needs and the competitive landscape. You will use your data expertise and analytical skills to drive evidence‑based, timely decision making.
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to support Design Cost and Complexity Analytics. The ideal candidate has experience in statistics, machine learning and proven communication skills that bridge technical and business teams, plus knowledge of cost modeling, product design (hardware), manufacturing, mechanical engineering or a similar domain.
Responsibilities- Acquire deep understanding of vehicle engineering problems and translate them into appropriate mathematical representations.
- Work with large and small, complex data sets using tools such as SQL, Big Query, and Python.
- Contribute and review code for our code base in Git Hub.
- Clean, assess validity and completeness of data samples from Ford’s products, services and supply chain.
- Deliver insights, models and tools using statistical analysis, sample validation, machine learning, algorithm design and feature engineering.
- Interpret modeling results and communicate them to technical and non‑technical audiences, cross‑functional teams and leadership.
- Interact and work cross‑functionally with hardware engineers, software engineers and product designers.
- Develop trust with stakeholders by delivering results on time.
- Ensure overall quality of the data and solutions throughout the development process.
- Provide training and maintenance of implemented tools to business partners.
- Collect feedback from business users and continuously improve analytic products.
- Mentor junior data scientists and serve as a role model.
- Find opportunities to lead and innovate as a Senior Data Scientist on the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, statistics, data science, computer science, economics, mathematics, operations research or a related quantitative discipline.
- 5+ years of experience using statistics, machine learning and advanced mathematical techniques for gaining insights from data.
- 5+ years of experience with Python, SQL or Big Query for acquiring and transforming data.
- 5+ years of experience with real‑world data, data cleaning, data collection or other data wrangling challenges.
- Experience with sampling and sample assessment techniques when data are not ideal, especially in structured data with gaps (e.g., design of experiments, factorial experiments, Latin hypercube sampling).
- Comfortable working in an environment where problems are not always well‑defined.
- Well‑organized, a self‑starter, independent and ready to work with minimal supervision.
- A respectful and committed teammate, willing to excel and work with talented people.
- Inquisitive, proactive, and interested in learning new tools and techniques.
- Proven quantitative modeling and statistical analysis skills.
- Masters or PhD in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, engineering, economics, mathematics, data science or operations research.
- Knowledge of cost modeling, product design (hardware), mechanical engineering or a similar domain.
- Experience deploying machine learning in production (ideally MLOps).
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other cloud systems.
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively advocate technical solutions to peers, management and business audiences.
