What you’ll be able to do:
- EDS Industrialization Design and Release Engineer - positions offered by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, Michigan). Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the Dearborn office. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance from Dearborn, MI.
- Lead 3D wire harness routing using Catia and Siemens NX for space, serviceability, and design.
- Translate system requirements into logical and physical schematics, ensuring representation of circuits, signal flow, and component interconnections.
- Optimize design and partner with CAE to run circuit analysis simulations, identifying performance, thermal, and EMC issues.
- Develop design strategies to optimize manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and serviceability to reduce costs.
- Develop critical program-specific documentation including boundary diagrams and DFMEA for traceability, risk, and compliance.
- Lead development of manufacturing prints with Full-Service Supplier Partner.
- Define and manage wire harness family complexity, optimizing part numbers to streamline efficiency.
- Utilize common design principles and component standardization across vehicle programs.
- Create clear installation illustrations to facilitate efficient installation and maintenance.
- Establish and maintain a robust design version control system, maintaining a clear audit trail.
- Conduct thorough design reviews with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing or Quality, providing feedback to ensure designs meet requirements.
- Manage APQP for electrical components and wire harnesses to ensure suppliers meet requirements.
- Review pre-production and prototype vehicles to resolve electrical design issues and prevent recalls or warranty costs.
- Represent electrical design and industrialization team at vehicle prototype build events, provide on-site support, resolve design issues, and track in JIRA.
- Lead investigation and resolution of warranty issues, using AWS data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Lead cost analysis of EDS components to reduce costs and optimize manufacturing.
- Define pinouts/terminal sizing for in-line connectors.
- Provide technical support in selecting fuse sizes, wire gauges and types, ensuring overcurrent protection and minimizing voltage drop.
- Configure power distribution and grounding.
- Assign and define electrical circuit options for vehicle configurations.
- Lead electrical compatibility reviews of EDS designs and sign off wire harness prints.
- Manage logical design data in Catia and Teamcenter to ensure data integrity, traceability, and security.
- Domestic and International Travel Required up to 20%.
