Stamping Specialist - Simulation & Surface Modeling
Join Ford Motor Company as a Stamping Specialist to support manufacturing processes in current and future vehicle programs at Dearborn Tool & Die. In this role you will engineer stamping dies, perform simulations, and drive manufacturing efficiency.
Job DescriptionAs part of the Manufacturing team, you’ll develop new technologies and processes to increase efficiency. You’ll ensure that stamped panels meet quality standards and support the overall product development life‑cycle.
Responsibilities- Drive “Voice of Manufacturing” throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure robust, feasible, and manufacturable stamped panels.
- Deliver production work – meet all modeling timing & quality deliverables.
- Perform simulations of stamping processes for comprehensive formability evaluation.
- Optimize stamping processes: perform draw and line die simulations, and resolve stamping concerns through iterative refinement until launch.
- Support die design and tooling problem resolution during tool construction and try‑out.
- Update stamping die process information and communicate continuous improvement feedback for future model usage.
- Create models for each die operation based on quality improvement requirements.
- Run FEA simulations, obtain results, and analyze data for correction loop implementation.
- Modify die face models (spring‑back compensation / formability) until product quality intent is achieved.
- Update line die face models to address nest, forming tool geometries, etc.
- Optimize die face models iteratively to achieve required panel quality.
- Analyze and update holes & trim edges to address morphing results.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Tool & Die Journeyman’s Card.
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience:
Die Process, CAD Draw Development, Die Design, Die Construction and/or Try‑out. - Experience with stamping and machining processes.
- Capable of early stamping process feasibility evaluations in an integrated CAD/CAE environment.
- Perform simulations for comprehensive formability and dimensional evaluation.
- Support die design sections.
- Fluent with at least one stamping process simulation software:
Dyna, Autoform, or ESI Pam Stamp. - Practical CAD experience with CATIA V5 and Team Center a plus.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, metallurgy, materials science or related field.
- Ability to support die try‑out: understand stamping dimensional errors and correction.
- Highly motivated self‑starter capable of delivering objectives with minimal supervision.
- Experience in planning, implementation, and onsite launch of manufacturing systems.
- 5+ years of automotive manufacturing experience.
- Proficiency in GD&T, part fixturing, holding datums, and tolerance stack‑ups.

This position is a salary grade
