Job Summary

This Facilities Controls Engineer II is responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting industrial and building control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, VFDs, and instrumentation. The position requires configuring control networks, programming automation systems, and ensuring fault‑tolerant and code‑compliant operations. The engineer will support facility projects, optimize equipment performance, and provide technical guidance to a 24‑hour operations team. Collaboration with cross‑functional engineers and vendors is essential to maintain best practices and drive continuous improvement.

Works independently on routine assignments and impacts projects within the functional area.

Functional Operations
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot control systems and instrumentation for building and process systems, including pumps, valves, sensors, HVAC, and Life Safety Systems
  • Program building system PLCs with data acquisition and PID control, ensuring fault‑tolerant systems with error handling and recovery
  • Assist with development and execution of controls‑related scope for facility expansion and sustaining projects, including P&IDs, Sequence of Operations, I/O lists, panel drawings, and instrumentation lists
  • Advanced proficiency in programming industrial process PLCs (Allen Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi) and Human Machine Interfaces (Ignition, Panel View)
  • Program and troubleshoot SCADA systems for monitoring facility operations and optimize performance
  • Expands technical depth; handles moderately complex problems
  • Manages work streams or small projects
Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement
  • Program and tune variable frequency drives (ABB, Rockwell) to optimize equipment performance
  • Solves moderately complex problems with limited guidance
  • Suggests improvements to designs or processes
Training & Team Support
  • Provide technical controls support for 24‑hour operations
  • Shares knowledge with peers
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines and Panasonic sites to foster best practices
  • Communicates with cross‑functional partners
  • Uses sound judgment on moderately complex issues
Quality, Safety, & Compliance
  • Select appropriate circuit protectors, wiring, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFDs, and instrumentation
  • Configure and manage control networks including Fieldbus (Profi Net, Device Net, Ethernet/IP), Safety‑rated networks, and serial communications (Modbus, RS‑232)
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot secure, reliable industrial networks enabling PLC‑to‑PLC and PLC‑to‑SCADA communication
  • Ensure projects and systems comply with applicable codes and standards (NEC, ISA) and manage supplier performance through audits and field oversight; understand industrial equipment and processes to maintain or improve associated controls and instrumentation hardware and software
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements
  • To ensure health and safety in the workplace and for employee protection, wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. A respirator fit test will be required based on functional area.

  • Required:

    Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or related engineering field with an aptitude for Controls / Electrical / Instrumentation topics.
Essential Qualifications
  • 2+ years of relevant Controls Engineering and PLC/SCADA programming experience.
  • Experience with PLCs and SCADA systems.
