Overview
Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic II. This is a dedicated on-site shop position and we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Cox Fleet is a leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide with 50+ service centers. A successful candidate will perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other duties as assigned.

Cox Fleet keeps your fleet moving with maintenance services for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. We are supported by a 24/7 in-house call center and provide scheduled and unscheduled services to fleets anywhere, anytime.
Responsibilities- Perform certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned (e.g., aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body and framework).
- Under supervision of a Sr Shop Trailer Technician or higher, perform more advanced repairs and assist senior technicians; learn additional advanced mechanical skills.
- Follow safe operating practices; maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in end-of-day cleanup of tools, parts, and equipment.
- Interact with Shop Parts Department to determine and obtain parts; work with Service Writer to assess customer needs and communicate effectively.
- Document work according to company standards, upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using company devices or Karmak application; complete DOT forms and other documentation timely.
- Maintain productivity and work within standard repair times; obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss RO findings with management and support teams.
- Perform scheduled PMs, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs for vehicles in a shop environment; perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
- Maintain and service assigned shop trucks; conduct safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems; assist with diagnostics as needed.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience. Alternatively, equivalent combination of degree/certification beyond HS or 5 years of related experience.
- Must possess and supply a basic set of hand tools; OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- DOT/FMCSA regulations knowledge; ability to successfully complete a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening.
- Current and valid DOT medical card (or DOT physical if remaining validity is 4 months or less); must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations; valid driver’s license.

Certifications:
ASE T8 (PMI) within 18 months; ASE T4 (Brakes) and T5 (Suspension) preferred; ASE T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), and T8/PMI certifications optional as listed. - Preferred: ASE 608/609 certification.
- Knowledge of trailer parts and systems; ability to lift and perform moderately heavy labor; strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work with limited supervision when needed.
