Role Description

The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care according to the nursing process. They will direct, delegate, and coordinate care provided by LPNs, CNAs, Patient Care Companions, and Unit Clerks, ensuring appropriate assignments based on patient age and development level.

Qualifications
  • RN – State of Florida
  • Degree from an accredited nursing school; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Completion of general and nursing orientation
  • Completion of unit orientation and competency checklist
  • Professional interpersonal communication skills
  • Certifications as required by the unit (see certification addendum)
  • Completion of annual competency modules
  • Excellent communication skills for dealing with physicians, patients, families, and colleagues
Responsibilities
  • Assess patients on admission and continuously monitor their condition
  • Identify and respond to changes in patient status
  • Document assessments and care plans
  • Coordinate and plan patient care based on assessments
  • Involve family/significant others in care planning
  • Develop individualized teaching plans for patients
  • Provide supportive and rehabilitative care
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve patient outcomes
  • Initiate and verify physician orders
  • Use nursing judgment in care provision
  • Evaluate patient responses and progress
  • Organize patient care based on needs and resources
  • Serve as patient advocate
  • Prioritize care activities
  • Coordinate with ancillary services
  • Maintain professional development and adhere to standards and hospital values
  • Report to work as scheduled and maintain professional appearance
  • Maintain confidentiality and act ethically
  • Participate in continuing education and staff development
  • Contribute to safety, research, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Administer medications according to policies
  • Follow patient safety protocols
