Develops and provides reports to medical staff leadership and administration, including verification of membership, privileges, and practitioner statistical information. Establishes standards and analyzes work procedures for all facets of medical staff office functions to promote best practices. Develops and monitors operational quality indicators that reflect meaningful measures of service quality, setting department goals and objectives. Safeguards liability exposure for the hospital and medical staff by monitoring compliance with medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies.
Develops and maintains processes for monitoring healthcare professionals expirables and maintains current verification in credentials files. Interprets, develops, and implements practices to ensure continuous compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. Implements processes to ensure compliance with policies and guidelines related to credentialing, privileging, and competence assessment of practitioners. Manages processes related to investigative, disciplinary, and legal proceedings, including formal investigations and fair hearings.
Responds or delegates responses to corporate requests, law office requests, and subpoenas related to medical staff organization or practitioner matters. Maintains fiscal responsibility, including developing and monitoring an operating budget and promoting cost-effective operations. Manages medical staff funds, including collecting membership dues and fees, and reporting to the Treasurer, as well as managing leadership contracts and stipends. Responsible for leading team and supervising direct reports as assigned.
Develops the scope of service for the department, aligning goals and objectives with the hospital s mission and strategic initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
- Facile use of the Microsoft suite of tools
- Understanding of regulatory and legal requirements regarding the medical staff processes
- Proficiency with privileging and credentialing software
- Knowledge of medical staff credentialing and privileging, including extensive understanding of medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures, and applicable state and federal laws
- Familiarity with The Joint Commission standards and other accreditation standards as they relate to credentialing, provider quality, and medical staff services
- Demonstrates leadership qualities including accountability, strategic thinking, critical thinking, promotion of change, and the ability to inspire and motivate others
- Ability to effectively interact and relate to personnel at all levels of the organization, maintaining customer relationships, and exceeding expectations
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with an advanced understanding of medical terminology
- Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to critically evaluate and appropriately act upon complex clinical and technical information
- Outcome and result-oriented with proven experience in managing multiple demands and achieving results
- Knowledge of Performance Improvement/Peer Review principles and extensive knowledge of healthcare and credentialing industry, including medical-legal issues and laws
- Proven experience in a management position, guiding individuals and groups toward desired outcomes while setting high performance standards
- Organizing and planning skills, with the ability to proactively prioritize needs and effectively manage resources
- Demonstrates proficiency in PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications and a drive to incorporate technology in all operational functions
