Your Specific Responsibilities:
  • This position serves as an OPS Dental Hygienist on Volusia County's Dental Outreach Program operating in Volusia County.
  • This position offers a fun, exciting, and rewarding work environment that never gets boring. You will be an instrumental part of breaking down barriers that keep some children from receiving much needed dental care.
  • This position works under the general supervision of the Public Health Services Manager- B SES in the dental outreach program and provides professional support and technical assistance to staff, community agencies and the general public.
  • This position will be assigned to the WIC (Women Infant and Children) program providing assessments, fluoride varnish, toothbrush prophy, and anticipatory guidance for infants and children up to age 4 years old.
  • This position will provide education to community agencies and the public through community events and health fairs in accordance with the mission and vision of the dental program and the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County.
  • This position may at times require working with the School Based Sealant Program in schools and the Dept. of Health dental clinics located in Daytona Beach and Orange City.
  • This position requires travel between multiple work sites.
  • If you have been licensed to practice dental hygiene in any state for at least 10 years, you may be able to obtain a Limited Dental Hygiene license in Florida and practice dental hygiene for the Florida Department of Health.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to lift 30lbs or more
  • Ability to complete and maintain patients medical records
  • Ability to provide instruction/education to patients in preventative oral/dental health techniques
Qualifications:
  • Minimum - Must have experience working with children
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Must have experience providing dental assessments
  • Must be willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions
  • Preferred - Experience placing and evaluating dental sealants
  • Computer knowledge (Eaglesoft, HMS)
  • Communicate effectively with people of different cultural and educational backgrounds
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English
