* $3.50 per hour pay increase with a Master ASE certification

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
  • Possess a current Class B CDL license with air brake, school bus, and passenger endorsements.
  • A proficiency in repair and maintenance of buses, trucks, and other automotive equipment.
  • Two years of mechanic experience preferred.
  • An ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO

Transportation Supervisor

JOB GOAL

To keep the district’s vehicle fleet in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs the diagnosis and repair of district vehicular equipment.
  • Assists in maintenance of a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains buses to facilitate successful completion of all state Highway Patrol inspections.
  • Assists drivers with all components associated with preventative checks and maintenance prior to leaving on their bus routes.
  • Record daily gas pump reading each morning.
  • Dips and records gas storage tank readings as directed by Supervisor.
  • Makes daily inspection of work orders to establish priorities.
  • Effectively prioritizes daily workload to maximize department efficiency.
  • Exchange/retrieve video hardware/equipment from buses as directed by Supervisor.
  • Communicates with the Transportation Supervisor of needed items, materials and supplies.
  • Assists Transportation Supervisor in establishing an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care.
  • Maintains records of all maintenance and repair work.
  • Performs regular/monthly safety inspection.
  • Attends meetings as requested by the Transportation Supervisor, Director of Business Operation and/or the Superintendent.
  • Maintains high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas.
  • Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines [OSHA].
  • Reports all conditions that present safety hazards on buses and other automotive equipment immediately to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA].
  • Assists with phones and radio communications as needed.
  • Ability to support department efforts to properly pre-treat, plow, and salt district parking lots as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor, Director of Business Operations and/or the Superintendent.

MATHEMATICS SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts, fundamental mathematical operations and any specialized knowledge needed to perform general and specific job requirements.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with drivers, mechanics, support staff, and other school personnel. Effectively follow written and oral directions of supervisory personnel.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Ability to use technology resources as required by job responsibilities including, but not limited to, Windows workstations, the Microsoft Office software suite, email, web-based platforms, and proprietary transportation applications.
