Renal Clinic-Registered Nurse

Pay Range

$75,865.00/yr - $/yr (based on skills and experience)

Summary

The Renal Clinic‑Registered Nurse will work within the Nephrology Section of Medical Service, reporting to the Acute Care Nursing Service. The RN is responsible for enhancing veterans’ access to kidney evaluation and treatment services. Peritoneal dialysis experience is preferred.

Qualifications
  • English language proficiency
  • Compliance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) – proficiency in basic written and spoken English for direct patient care
  • Graduate of a nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE
  • Or completion of a master’s‑level bridge program with equivalency coursework to a nursing bachelor’s degree
  • State license or temporary appointment pending licensure (120‑day temporary or up to two years)
  • Foreign nursing graduates must have full, active, unrestricted registration and, if required, a recognized equivalency evaluation (e.g., ICD)
  • Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception for eligible candidates without licensure
  • Grade and level determination based on practice, leadership, professional development, and evidence‑based practice criteria (see online assessment for specifics)
  • Minimum education and experience for each nurse level (from ADN/Diploma to MS/PhD/related degrees with specified experience)
  • Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019
Duties
  • Serve as the peritoneal dialysis (PD) nurse and evaluate patients for PD modality
  • Provide patient and family PD education
  • Conduct home visits to determine PD eligibility
  • Coordinate ordering of home supplies
  • Educate dialysis staff on PD care
  • Provide hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis care and serve as an alternate hemodialysis RN on PRN basis
  • Perform intake and exit procedures, educational and psychosocial assessments, triage of telephone calls, walk‑ins, and unstable veterans
  • Deliver fundamental knowledge‑based care while developing technical competencies
  • Collaborate annually with the Chief of Nephrology to complete VA referrals to outside dialysis treatment centers
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
