Renal Clinic-Registered Nurse

The Dayton VAMC is looking for a registered nurse within the Renal Clinic. This clinic is within the Nephrology Section of Medical Service and reports to Acute Care Nursing Service, specific to kidney evaluation and treatment. The RN is accountable for clinical responsibilities to enhance the Veteran's access to care.

Peritoneal Dialysis experience preferred.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

* Serves as the peritoneal dialysis (PD) nurse and assists in evaluating patients for this modality.

* Provides patient and family PD education.

* Performs home visits to determine eligibility for the PD program.

* Assists in coordinating the ordering of home supplies.

* Educates dialysis staff on providing PD care.

* Provides both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis and serves as an alternate hemodialysis RN to provide direct patient care in the dialysis unit on a PRN basis.

* Clinical responsibilities which include the proper intake and exit of the Veteran at clinic visit, meeting educational and psychosocial assessment and needs, procedural assisting and appropriate triaging of telephone calls, walk-ins, and unstable Veterans.

* Delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies.

* Responsible annually for working with the Chief of Nephrology to complete VA referrals to outside dialysis treatment centers.

* All other duties as assigned.
