This CNC Setup Machinist role exists to ensure machines are properly prepared, optimized, and validated before production begins — reducing scrap, improving cycle times, and protecting on-time delivery performance.
In this AS9100D-certified, ITAR-registered environment, precision and process discipline are critical. This role plays a direct part in maintaining GMD’s 95%+ on-time delivery record and preferred supplier status.

The Work You’ll Be DoingIn this role, you will:
- Set up and prepare CNC mills and lathes for aerospace and defense components
- Load, edit, and optimize CNC programs at the machine
- Select tooling, set offsets, and validate work holding
- Perform first-article and in-process inspections
- Adjust feeds, speeds, and offsets to maintain tolerance and surface finish
- Troubleshoot machining issues to reduce scrap and downtime
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
- Work within AS9100 quality procedures and documentation systems
- Handle export-controlled technical data in compliance with ITAR/EAR
This is a true setup-level role — not button pushing.

What We’re Looking ForRequired:
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience
- Proven CNC setup experience on mills and/or lathes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints & GD&T
- Strong understanding of tooling selection and offsets
- Experience performing first-article inspections
- Comfortable working in regulated aerospace/defense environments
- ITAR-qualified (U.S. Person status required)
Preferred:
- Multi-axis machining experience
- Exposure to Swiss or multi-spindle machining
- Experience in AS9100 environments
- Mastercam familiarity
